Slaying Mexicans with cookies

Dear Fam,

Hey! Glad to hear that all is going well. For me, it´s actually cold and rainy right now. My body´s not used to being cold in June! The buckets of rain we have received prompted me to buy a new umbrella because mine is broken. but anyways, life is good here in Padierna.

So as for the title, this week we made cookies for our big open house activity at the church on Saturday. It was great. We made a whole bunch of them. And they turned out great. Everyone loved them and it was nice to eat something that reminded me of my mother USA. Yeah, I´m starting to miss some of the food from back home. I need to get my hands on some good BBQ sauce but that´s a hard thing to find out here. Whateve´s. I´ll be fine. Back to the cookies, they turned out awesome. everyone loved them and life is good. Our open house was super fun and I got to lead groups of people around as they explained what we do in church. And I learned something new. The High priests are in charge of taking care of the widows, family history work, and helping the members prepare to enter the temple. My whole life I had no idea what they do but now i do. Super cool! We didn´t end up having a whole lot of investigators come but all in all it turned out great.

So, we have an investigator who in about two weeks will be getting baptized. His name is Luis and he´s amazing. So the first time we met him after the sisters had passed him over to us we learned that while he works he listens to the book of mormon and was in Mormon 5 two weeks ago. Now he´s finished, started over, and super committed to being baptized and everything. He considers himself to be a member already and it brings joy to my heart to see him grow and learn. He has a thirst for the gospel that is truly inspiring and I consider it a privilege that we get to teach him.

Can i just say, I love being a missionary!!!!
I hope you all have a great week!
Love,

oh PANTS!!!!!!

Dear Fam,

As you can see by the title, we, the sisters of ciudad de mexico sur, are now running around the city in dress pants. WHAT??? Yeah I know. Its weird and interesting and surprising and everything all at once but I´ve decided one thing, scaling the mountain here in Pandierna is much easier in pants. So yes world, I, Hermana Hyer, run around the city a few days of the week in dress pants. And it´s great. Why? reason #1 the creeps don´t recognize us so they leave us alone. Before in skirts there were all kinds of hoots and hollers but now they don´t recognize us so its all good. and we now look different than the Jehovah´s witnesses. Reason #2 like i said earlier, the mountain is easier in pants. none of this "am I going to trip on my skirt?" nonsense. reason #3 when it rains, we don´t get as wet.

So anyways, here´s what went down this week.
Wednesday we went to the Doctor for my companion because she´s got super sensitive skin. More sensitive than what Julia had. She´s allergic to a bunch of different stuff like grass and pollen and whatnot and her skin doesn't secrete oil, ever. So there´s a bunch of creams and whatnot that she´s got to use all the time. How grateful I am to have healthy skin.
Thursday, we had to go down to the office and go pants shopping. And yes, I bought some pants. They´re nice and comfortable and professional and have pockets and it´s fun. We wear skirts that are to the floor if we aren´t wearing pants or boots that go higher than where our skirts that go calf length end. So, pants are nice in the heat and the rain.

And that´s pretty much the major occurances of the week. Except today. We made gorditas for lunch and it was delicious. I had fun playing with the dough and pretending it was clay. And it was fun learning how to make something new. We were happy.

So I´m loving it here in Padierna. We work hard. We have Fun. And there´s not much else I could ask for.

Have a great week!!!

Padierna, what an interesting ride

Dear Fam,

Hey you guys!!! Hope all´s well at home. Everything is just awesome here in lovely Padierna. Well at the beginning of the week, not so much but we´re good now! This week has literally been an adventure that I will never ever forget. But through all the madness it´s been super fun!

So what happened? First off we got to the area with the other sisters and left the baggage in the "department" and went off to buy food because we had none. Then we waited until 9:30 for the Elders to show up with our furniture and sign the contract.... which didn´t happen. We had to find another house because they didn´t like this one, with good reasons, so we found another department and moved in on wednesday and then we went off to work. The best part of it all is that the members helped us out every step of the way. They are incredible here in comparison with the other wards I´ve been in.

We´ve got lots of work considering we started from scratch. The Lord has worked miracles this week with us. We had nothing and then the sisters passed us an investigator named Luis who has been to church now 4 times and listens to the Book of Mormon and friday was in Mormon 5. what??? Yep, crazy I know, they had literally only taught him twice and when they passed him to us he was that far. It’s awesome. Plus on Thrusday we found an active member who used to be the mission leader and he gave us a binder full of detailed maps and directions of where all of the actives and less actives live. Yet another miracle because now we have a whole ton of work. It´s great. Plus church was amazing because everyone completes with their callings and want nothing more than help us out. It´s great.

Let´s just say I am beyond happy to be here and beyond happy to be with Hna Hernandez from Pachuca Mexico because everything is so easy together. We think the same, act the same, and we both know how to work hard. The rod has truly blessed me beyond what I can imagine right now. I get to stop and think, "do i really deserve all of these blessings?" who knows, but im definitely enjoying them!
Till next week!

Cambios!!!

Dear Fam,

WAHOOO!!!! It´s summer for you guys and that´s awesome. I hope your first days of swim and fun and sun have been awesome. Congrats Syd you ancient Child for graduating!!! Thats sooo awesome and I am hoping that all is going well. Don´t worry too much. College isn´t that hard, and it´s a blast being an adult. Just saying.

So anyways, we had transfers today. I am opening an area in Padierna with Hermana Hernadez from Pachuca Mexico. Super excited!!! So what´s opening area you ask? It´s when you go somewhere where nobody has been before. In this area there were only 2 sisters and now they´ll be 4. Two weeks ago President told me that I might be opening an area but now it´s for certain and I´m super excited. We start from absolutely zero. Right now we have no beds or furniture or map of the area but tonight the Elders are gonna bring all of that good stuff over and we´ll set the house up and start figuring out what to do. The best part is that tomorrow we´ll eat with the Bishop so I´m sure he will help us out. I´m super excited!!!!

So this week wasn´t super eventful. We cleaned the whole house because they pulled us both out and put some Elders in. It´s gonna be quite the adventure for them. I hope everything will be alright.

I hope you all are doing well and that the summer treats you well. I know that things happen for a reason. The Lord´s hand is in everything and He knows best what is what we need and what we can handle. I know that this new area will be awesome and I´m sure excited to work!!!

I´ll catch you all up on the details next week!!! Have a good one!!!
Love,

Hermana Hyer
